How to clean silver plate without chemicals

Here's a detailed recipe for a homemade solution to clean silver plate:

  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • Aluminum foil
  • Hot water
  • Soft cloth

  1. Start by boiling enough water to fully submerge your silver plate.

  2. While the water is heating up, create a mixture of 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of salt.

  3. Take a large piece of aluminum foil and fold it into a square shape that will fit inside a deep dish or container.

  4. Place the foil in the container and sprinkle the baking soda and salt mixture on top of the foil.

  5. When the water has come to a boil, pour it over the foil and the baking soda mixture.

  6. Immerse the silver plate in the solution so that it is touching the aluminum foil. Be sure that the entire surface of the silver plate is touching the aluminum foil.

  7. Let the silver plate soak in the solution for at least 10 minutes.

  8. After soaking, remove the silver plate from the solution and rinse it thoroughly with hot water.

  9. Dry the silver plate with a soft cloth.

The baking soda, salt, and aluminum foil work together to create a chemical reaction that removes tarnish from the silver plate. The aluminum foil acts as a conductor and transfers the tarnish from the silver plate to the foil. The baking soda and salt act as a cleaning agent, removing any dirt or grime on the silver plate.

Note: This method is suitable for solid silver or silver-plated objects. However, do not use it to clean jewelry with gemstones or pearls, as it may damage them.
