Silver Glasses — Your Questions, Answered

Everything buyers ask before bringing home a solid silver glass — purity, certification, daily use, care, and gifting. Straight from the workshop floor.

Are these solid silver or silver-plated?

Every glass is solid silver, never plated. We make them factory-direct in our own Bengaluru workshop, where solid daily-use articles like glasses and tumblers are spun on the lathe by hand. There is no base metal core and no coating to wear off — what you hold is silver through and through.

What purity are PureSilver.io silver glasses?

Our glasses are crafted in 925 (sterling) or 990 silver, both BIS hallmarked. We deliberately do not use 999 fine silver for drinking glasses — it is too soft to hold its form in daily use and dents easily. The small amount of alloy in 925 and 990 gives the glass the strength to last generations while keeping the silver content high and food-safe.

Is the silver hallmarked and certified?

Yes. Every piece carries the BIS hallmark for its purity grade, and any glass weighing over 100g also carries a HUID (a unique six-character ID stamped on the article). Every order ships with a Certificate of Authenticity printed with our BIS Licence Number, so the purity you pay for is the purity you receive — verifiable and on record.

Is it safe to drink water from a silver glass?

Yes — silver is food-safe and non-toxic, and drinking water stored in silver is a centuries-old practice in Indian households, valued in Ayurvedic tradition. Silver is also naturally antimicrobial, a property that is well documented. We share this as heritage and material fact rather than a medical claim; for any specific health concern, please speak to your doctor.

Can I drink lemon water, buttermilk or juice from it?

Yes, you can serve all of these. Acidic drinks like lemon water, buttermilk and citrus juices may leave a faint dullness on the surface over time — this is normal and purely cosmetic, never harmful. Simply rinse and dry the glass soon after use, and give it an occasional gentle polish to bring the shine back.

Will the silver tarnish, and how do I clean it?

All silver darkens slightly with air and humidity — that is silver behaving as silver, not a defect. For everyday care, hand wash with mild soap and warm water and dry immediately with a soft cloth. To restore shine, use a silver polishing cloth or a gentle silver cleaner. For heirloom or heavily tarnished pieces, our Navrang Silver Care service can professionally restore them to new.

Are silver glasses dishwasher safe?

We recommend hand washing only. Dishwasher heat and harsh detergents accelerate tarnishing and can leave water spots on solid silver. A quick hand wash with mild soap and a soft cloth keeps your glass bright and protects it for the long term.

How heavy is a silver glass, and why does weight vary?

Weight depends on the size and gauge of the glass — a slim daily tumbler sits lighter, while a heavier ceremonial or gifting glass uses thicker silver and feels substantial in the hand. Because silver is priced by weight, the exact grams of each piece are listed on its product page so you know precisely what you are buying.

How is the price calculated?

Price is the live silver rate multiplied by the weight of the glass, plus a making charge for the craftsmanship. Because we sell factory-direct from our own workshop, there is no jeweller's retail markup in between — you pay the maker, not the middleman. That is why our solid silver glasses are priced fairer than the same weight at a traditional showroom.

Is a silver glass a good gift?

It is one of the most enduring gifts in Indian tradition. A solid silver glass is a classic choice for housewarmings, weddings, anniversaries and especially newborns — where gifting silver is considered auspicious. Unlike most gifts, it holds real material value, lasts a lifetime, and is often passed down as an heirloom. It arrives gift-ready with its Certificate of Authenticity.

Do you make silver glasses for babies and newborns?

Yes. We offer smaller silver glasses suited to children and newborns — a traditional first gift in many families. They are made in the same BIS hallmarked solid silver as our full-size pieces, sized and finished for little hands, and can be engraved with the child's name or birth date as a keepsake.

Can I get a silver glass engraved or personalised?

Yes — we engrave names, dates, initials and short messages, and can craft bespoke motifs for weddings, milestones and corporate gifting. As a working family atelier we also take heirloom and custom commissions. Message us on WhatsApp with what you have in mind and we will share options and timelines.

Do you ship internationally and to NRIs?

Yes — we ship worldwide with express delivery, typically arriving in 4–9 days. Every international order is fully insured and includes its Certificate of Authenticity. Wherever you are, you can send a piece of Bengaluru-made solid silver home or to family abroad.

What is your return and exchange policy?

If a piece arrives damaged or not as described, contact us promptly and we will make it right with a replacement or resolution. Engraved and bespoke commissions are made to order and so are not returnable except in the case of a defect. For the smoothest help, reach us on WhatsApp with your order number and a photo.
